History

What a great year to be a Jayhawk! It is our pleasure as Co-Directors of the Homecoming Steering Committee to welcome you to the events of Homecoming 2009. This year's committee has worked hard to create new events that will benefit both the spirit of campus and the Lawrence community, while building upon the past traditions of homecoming. The events begin on Saturday, October 3rd and will end with the football game against the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday, October 10th. With events scheduled every day of the week, we know that there is something for everyone and encourage everyone to get involved.

The spirit and enthusiasm revolving around Homecoming has been a KU tradition since the first football game in 1912 with the defeat of the Missouri Tigers in front of 9,000 Jayhawk fans. We hope that Homecoming 2009 will be no different. The University of Kansas has a lot to look forward to as a new academic year commences and a lot to reflect upon in our past year of athletic success. The events planned are a means to boost the Jayhawk spirit and pride that has increased over the past years. From a BBQ for KU students, the Parade on Jayhawk Boulevard, and numerous events on Wescoe beach, the week will be packed full of fun and excitement for Jayhawk fans, old and new. There is no doubt that at the conclusion of the football game on Saturday, students and the Lawrence community members alike will be reinvigorated with the KU spirit.

The Homecoming Informational Pack will be available by September 1st to answer all of your questions. However, if you have any questions concerning Homecoming 2009, before please contact us or the respective committee chair. We look forward to celebrating years of Jayhawk tradition and pride with you!
